GM selects PyroPhobic’s LithiumPrevent 200 hearth security materials for its Ultium battery platform

PyroPhobic Programs, a supplier of fire-resistant thermoplastic resins for batteries, has introduced that its LithiumPrevent 200 materials has been chosen for utility in GM’s Ultium battery platform.

LithiumPrevent 200 has “distinctive intumescent properties, that means it expands to create a barrier, decreasing the propagation of fireside,” says PyroPhobic. “Injection-molded into EV battery pack parts, LithiumPrevent 200 will mitigate thermal runaway occasions, making certain a safer drive for motorists.”

“PyroPhobic Programs mixed forces with Moulded Precision Elements (MPC) to carry superior half design concerns and modern injection molding capabilities which are wanted for this demanding mission,” says John Web page, President and CEO of PyroPhobic Programs.

The number of LithiumPrevent 200 comes after two years of collaboration between PyroPhobic Programs and GM’s engineering personnel, who examined the fabric and authorized it for security and compliance. GM will substitute conventional glass-filled plastic battery parts with LithiumPrevent 200.

PyroPhobic Programs merchandise are listed with licensed testing laboratories equivalent to Underwriter Laboratories and Intertek Testing Providers.
